Abstract

The residential area in The Bedadung River Basin (DAS) is divided into three neighborhoods and four RWs, which are RW 18 Kebonsari Village, RW 01 and 27 Sumbersari Village, and RW 01 Tegalgede Village. There are several households in the area that haven’t been covered with the waste collection system, with the details of 14 households in RW 18 Kebonsari Village, 21 households in RW 01 and 26 households in RW 27 Sumbersari Village, and 16 households in RW 01 Tegalgede Village. This is shown by the existence of people throwing garbage in the riverbank in the form of household waste and around 15 households in RW 27 Sumbersari Village are still burning waste to manage the garbage they have produced from household activities. Aside from that, the operational hours of waste collection in RW 18 Kebonsari Village are not aligned with the instructed operational hours of waste collection from the Masterplan of Garbage Jember Regency 2013 resulting in the collected garbage staying overnight in the landfill which causes negative effects on the surrounding area. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the existing waste collection system on the banks of the Bedadung River in the Sumbersari District with a limitation of research on the waste collection system from the source of garbage to the landfill. The evaluation of waste collection performance is done by analyzing the waste collection operational performance which is reviewed from the waste collection patterns, service coverage areas, collection tools, and collection locations. The result of this research is to determine the recommendation of a suitable waste collection system for the banks of the Bedadung River area in Sumbersari District to improve the performance of the waste collection system.
